Two types of scanners are supported:

• Barcode-only scanners
• Image-capture scanners

Barcode-only scanners

Barcode-only scanners must decode 2D (PDF417 format) barcodes.

E-Seek® M260, Honeywell® Xenon™ 1950G, and Zebra® DS8108 are tested and approved for barcode-only scanning.

• E-Seek M260 is a small-footprint, 2D reader for processing age/ID verification at high-attendance environments.

• Honeywell Xenon 1950G provides a high durability rating.

• Zebra DS8108 is a corded, handheld imager for 2D barcodes.

Image-capture scanners

Image-capture scanner requirements and recommendations:

• Grayscale images (required), color images (recommended).
• 300 DPI (required), 600 DPI (recommended).
• JPEG or PNG format.
• If JPEG, quality level 80 (required), 100 (recommended).

Ambir® ImageScan Pro DS687, DESKO® PENTA Scanner®, E-Seek® M280, E-Seek® M500, and certain Digital Check scanners are tested and approved for image-capture scanning.

• Ambir ImageScan Pro DS687 is a compact device for mobile card scanning.

• DESKO PENTA Scanner is popular among police, authorities, banks, and insurance companies.

• Digital Check SmartSource® Expert Elite and the TellerScan® TS250 are network-ready scanning devices. The TS250's body is based on the design of the SmartSource Elite series.

• E-Seek M280 is a 2D reader with high-resolution image capture.

• E-Seek M500 is a dual-sided, high-resolution reader with single-pass operation. It is available for the Windows operating system.

Configuration

The scanner must be properly configured. Refer to the device vendor for configuration and testing assistance. At a minimum, keep the following points in mind:

1. The scanner must return the barcode as a byte array.
2. Any prefix or suffix characters added by the scanner must be removed prior to sending the data in an API call.
3. Data must be encoded as base64 without further modifications.

Licensing

Intellicheck does not license scanners. You must obtain proper licensing from the device vendor.

Recommendations are provided for informational purposes only. Intellicheck Direct is designed to be hardware-agnostic where possible, enabling flexible integration with a wide range of scanners. Our APIs ensure consistent performance as long as the device meets our image and barcode decoding standards. TWAIN-compatible devices may be supported if they meet image quality standards. Additional development may be required for some models, such as scanners that need separate drivers.
