Phone and Network Guidance
This page describes the phone and network conditions that work best with Intellicheck Capture and Direct, and lists the phones we regularly test with. Phones beyond those we test with are also compatible — the specifications below can help determine whether a given device will perform well.
For optimal results
- Update the phone's operating system to the latest version.
- Use Google Chrome® or Apple Safari® web browsers.
Recommended Device Specifications
Intellicheck processes images of identification documents and, in some cases, selfie images for facial verification. Device hardware directly affects image quality, processing speed, and the overall success of a transaction.
Camera
The device camera must produce images with enough resolution and clarity for Intellicheck to read document text, decode barcodes, and perform facial comparison.
AutofocusAutofocus is required for document capture — fixed-focus cameras do not produce usable images of identification documents. Low resolution or fixed-focus rear cameras may produce document images that cannot be processed, resulting in failed or inconclusive transactions.
Rear Camera Image Resolution (Document Capture)
- Minimum: 1280×720 with autofocus
- Recommended: 1920×1080 with autofocus
- Optimal: 3840×2160 with autofocus
Front Camera Image Resolution (Facial Verification)
- Minimum: 1920×1080
- Optimal: 1920×1080 with autofocus
Processor and Memory
Low-end devices may exhibit slow image capture, delayed uploads, or connection timeouts during a transaction.
- Minimum RAM: 3 GB
- Processor: Modern multi-core processor
Storage
The device must have sufficient available storage to temporarily cache captured images before upload.
- Minimum available storage: 500 MB
Network Requirements
Intellicheck transactions require a network connection to upload captured images for processing. Network speed and stability directly affect transaction latency and success rates.
Minimum Connection Speed
- 4G LTE or faster is required.
- Minimum bandwidth: 5 Mbps upload/download speed
Wi-Fi
Wi-Fi connections that meet the minimum bandwidth requirement are supported. Public or shared Wi-Fi networks with captive portals, bandwidth throttling, or packet inspection may interfere with transactions.
Connections That May Cause Issues
The following network conditions are known to cause transaction failures:
- 3G or older mobile connections
- Satellite internet connections with high latency
- Networks behind aggressive proxy servers or firewalls that modify HTTPS traffic
- Severely congested networks where effective bandwidth drops below the minimum
What to Expect
Under supported conditions, most transactions complete within a few seconds of image submission. Slower, supported connections (such as a weak 4G signal) may result in longer upload times but should still complete successfully. If a transaction consistently times out or fails, check the device's network connection speed before troubleshooting other causes.
Operating Systems
Intellicheck services support the following operating systems and versions.
Older Operating SystemsDevices running OS versions older than those listed here may still function with Intellicheck services. OS versions that have reached end-of-life with the vendor are supported on a best-effort basis only, and Intellicheck cannot guarantee performance or troubleshoot issues specific to those environments. We recommend that all devices run an OS version that actively receives security updates from the vendor.
iOS
- iOS 16, 17, 18, and 26 (current release).
Mind the GapThere are no missing versions between 18 and 26. iOS 26 is the direct successor to iOS 18. Apple changed its version numbering in 2025.
Android
- Android 14, 15, and 16 (current release)
Tested Phones
Modern Phones are CompatibleCapture and Direct work with most modern phones released within the past two years.
Phones that meet the minimum requirements described on this page are expected to be compatible.
The following phones are ones we regularly test with. This is not a comprehensive compatibility list — it is intended to give you a sense of which models we have verified to work well with our systems. As noted above, most modern phones that meet the minimum requirements should work without issue.

Other Devices
- Tablets that meet the minimum requirements described on this page may also be compatible.
- Budget devices based on certain MediaTek chipsets are known to be problematic due to slow processor speeds.
- Foldables are supported for Capture but keep in mind that Capture does not support horizontal layouts. Therefore, a foldable device held in a vertical orientation will produce the best experience.
Device Compatibility with Direct
Direct customers must independently test devices to ensure compatibility. This is because as a Direct customer, you create your own capture experience, and therefore, we assume that you manage device compatibility.
