Wrong Barcode Captured
A handheld scanner might incorrectly capture a 1D barcode instead of the 2D (PDF417 format) barcode. This issue typically occurs for a /barcode-only endpoint request. The results will include invalid data in the response object, for example "Age": -1.
To fix the issue, cover the 1D barcode with an opaque object, such as a piece of tape or paper. The user can also be instructed to hold a finger over top of the 1D barcode. Then try again, using the handheld scanner to correctly capture the 2D barcode.
A driver’s license barcode is known as a 2D barcode with a specific design called the portable data file 417 (PDF417) barcode standard. PDF417 is widely used for encoding large amounts of data in a compact space. 417 refers to the barcode's structure: each pattern is made up of 4 bars and spaces in a pattern that is 17 units long.
